I would even call it a design defect rather than a manufacturing defect. I have patched my straps at all four slots, now, at least one more than once. But with some 2000 miles on my pair and lots of other patches now in place, I'm also about ready for a new pair. I've also heard rumors of a design change that would make the strap a replaceable part like a shoelace, which would suggest (if true) that Vibram knows about the problem.Drs. I have two pairs for KSO's, one is 9 months old and the other is 6 months, and on both of them, the straps are fraying on the eye. This is a big surprise as I don't run in them and mostly use them in office and walking. The odd part is the I called the Vibram USA customer service, and Stefan there told me that they have not had any complaints about it. So well, now they have one :)..Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03286263296983703625noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-981032524188235145.post-62579863087022367472010-06-14T21:27:48.422-07:002010-06-14T21:27:48.422-07:00Such a great review - thanks for all the input. Maybe someday I'll get there :-)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-981032524188235145.post-66397860538261669262009-09-29T08:28:43.497-07:002009-09-29T08:28:43.497-07:00Hi there! If you or anyone else would be interested in talking about your experience running without shoes, please email me with your contact information so we can chat. I've written an acount of it here:

2 hr 45 min Mountain Race, Fasted, in Vibram Five FingersMethuselahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09134860337125242027noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-981032524188235145.post-32805738469380837972009-09-04T08:47:37.454-07:002009-09-04T08:47:37.454-07:00Good luck with your race Methuselah! The more I use my Five-Fingers, the more impressed I am with the range of ground conditions that they can cope with at least as well or better than conventional shoes! Mud doesn't seem to be a problem at all. The toes grip better in mud than even fairly heavily treaded shoes, and one doesn't develop the "platform shoe" effect from attached mud nearly as much. Soft sand or equivalent (such as volcanic ash that was pretty deep in places when I recently went about a third of the way up Mt. Shasta in my Five-Fingers) also doesn't present much of a problem. Those isolated sharp rocks are the major hazard. Running down a hard packed road/trail with scattered loose gravel can be painful even for reasonably well-toughened feet. I can do it for short distances, but the feet take a beating.Drs. I have also done some hiking, jogging and sprinting in them. On Saturday I will run an 8.5-mile, 4,500-feet mountain race in them - this will be the first time they will really have been tested. My suspicions are that I will have a real problem on hard, stony terrain when going downhill and on any muddy, slippy terrain; but I am more interested in the race experience than in getting a fast time, so I am happy to lose time because I have to place my feet more carefully.

I have pre-ordered a pair of treks in anticipation of their being more suited to mountain running.Methuselahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09134860337125242027noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-981032524188235145.post-12769401589252982082009-07-21T01:51:08.351-07:002009-07-21T01:51:08.351-07:00Great post.!!
